To help you find the right school for your interests and goals, we’ve compiled a list of 2022’s best bachelor’s in counseling programs.

  1. Liberty University Online, Lynchburg, VA

Liberty University has an online bachelor’s in psychology with a concentration in Christian counseling, which teaches learners to approach counseling from a Christian viewpoint. Learners learn Bible-based counseling methods and examine theoretical approaches and psychotherapy methods.

The coursework comprises 120 credit hours, 30 of which must be taken at Liberty. Learners must finish half of the degree program’s major requirements at Liberty. General education requirements consist of classwork in communication, math, technology, and Christian life and thought. Foundational major classes cover concepts such as the psychology of individuality, issues of Christian counseling, and behavioral modification. Learners finish an internship, which offers real-world experience. Graduates pursue careers in case management, Christian counseling, administration, mental health services, and community relations.

  1. Clarks Summit University, South Abington Township, PA

Clarks Summit University has two programs for learners earning a bachelor’s in counseling online: a bachelor’s of science in counseling and a bachelor’s of science in counseling ministries. The counseling degree program teaches counseling and psychology concepts from a biblical viewpoint; learners develop counseling skills and learn to encourage spirituality in clients. The 123-credit degree program covers areas such as adolescent and adult psychology, building a biblical lifestyle, and individuality theory. The counseling ministries degree program focuses on philosophies and methods of biblical counseling and is perfect for learners pursuing counseling careers within the ministry. The degree program’s 122 credits consist of classes in biblical studies, subtleties of discipleship, and pastoral counseling.

Online classwork is delivered via Moodle. Candidates must finish a series of questions about their spiritual background and objectives and must submit an essay, high school transcripts, and ACT or SAT scores.

  1. Southwestern Assemblies of God University, Waxahachie, TX

SAGU has an online bachelor’s degree in counseling with an optional minor in addictions counseling. Learners investigate scripture and theological concepts and learn about individualities, events, and developments in the church and Pentecostal history. Learners write their philosophy of ministry, in which they explain the church’s mission, and take an exam to earn credentials for ministry in their field of choice. Graduates comprehend the relationship between psychology and the Christian faith, and they utilize both to counsel clients.

The 127-credit degree program requires 52 general education credits, 57 major credits, and 18 elective credits. The coursework covers concepts such as methods in marriage and family counseling, the psychology of selfhood and the Christian faith, and theories of individuality. Online learners have access to on-campus resources and supports and facilities, including the career center, the wellness center, and the counseling center.

John Wesley University has a bachelor’s degree in counseling online degree program. The Christian counseling degree prepares learners for counseling careers at local churches and faith-based ministries.  The coursework comprises general education classes, a biblical studies requirement, and major core classes. Classes cover concepts such as counseling methods, principles of Christian counseling, and psychology of abnormal individuality. Learners learn to comprehend various types of people in unique circumstances and how to help them solve problems using biblical and Christian methods.

Learners finish an introduction to psychology class and a psychology elective before undertaking major core classes. Electives allow learners to customize their degree to fit their interests and career objectives.

Crown College has an online counseling bachelor’s degree incorporating a biblical viewpoint. Learners in the fully online Christian counseling degree program learn about psychological theories from a Christian viewpoint and partake in skills-based training.

The degree program requires 125 to 131 credits; learners customize the degree with electives. Graduates work as addictions counselors, human resources and supports and services workers, community relations workers, administrators, and church counselors. Online learners pay discounted tuition rates and have access to on-campus resources and supports, including facilities that help learners investigate financial aid.

The 126-credit degree program includes 69 general education credits, 15 elective credits, 54 major credits, and a service and outreach requirement. Classes cover concepts such as Christ-centered counseling, family therapy, and foundations of spiritual formation. An internship and a service and outreach project provide practical experience and develop skills that help learners secure employment after graduation.

Online resources and supports consist of access to an academic advisor, counseling, and career services. The IT department helps distance learners with technical issues, and online libraries and tutoring chances are available. Online learners are eligible to study abroad, and those who live within 40 miles of campus can partake in athletics.

  1. Hobe Sound Bible College, Hobe Sound, FL

Hobe Sound Bible College has an online counseling bachelor’s degree program. The 129-credit degree program includes Bible, general education, and major classes. The coursework covers concepts such as marriage therapy, crisis intervention, foundations of faith, and family therapy. Learners learn to utilize faith and psychology to counsel people in unique situations. The degree program promotes spiritual development and prepares learners for various counseling careers. Learners may obtain a limited number of credits for related life experiences.

Candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Learners submitting a GED must have a minimum score of 410 on each test and a standard score of 450. HSBC’s programs are designed for learners with experience in Christian ministry, though learners of any age are welcome to apply. Transfer learners must have at least a 2.0 GPA. Learners must maintain a 2.0 GPA and must finish at least 30 credits via HSBC.

Crossroads College has an online bachelor’s degree program in counseling that prepares learners for careers in counseling and caregiving. Graduates pursue careers as camp counselors, church counselors, family counselors, and marriage counselors. The 120-credit coursework covers concepts such as counseling and ethnic diversity, foundations of marriage and family systems, and theories of individuality and psychotherapy. Learners learn to combine Christianity and psychology to counsel clients and bring them hope and healing. During the degree program, learners develop their faith and their counseling skills.

Candidates must submit high school transcripts or proof of GED completion, lifestyle expectations, a writing sample, two professional recommendations, and a pastoral or spiritual leader reference. Transfer learners must have at least 45 transferable credits with a 2.0 GPA. Online learners pay discounted tuition rates and have the chance to meet with an on-campus advisor to learn about financial aid options.
