The Woodbury Community Foundation, in collaboration with SoWashCo Cares, has significantly expanded its annual winter clothing donation drive this year. The initiative, which aims to provide warm clothing for students across the South Washington County School District, has nearly doubled its drop-off locations from 13 to 24.
Key details of the expanded drive include:
- Collection period: Now through December 20, 2024
- Items needed: Winter coats and snow pants (sizes 4T to adult medium)
- New drop-off locations: Woodbury High School, Jerry’s Foods, and the Woodbury YMCA, among others
The expansion comes in response to an increased need observed in recent years. Sarah Thompson, Executive Director of the Woodbury Community Foundation, stated, “We’ve seen a growing number of families struggling to provide adequate winter gear for their children. By increasing our collection points, we hope to make it more convenient for community members to donate and ultimately help more students stay warm this winter.”
Local businesses and organizations have stepped up to support the initiative. Jerry’s Foods manager Tom Wilson commented, “We’re proud to be a new drop-off location this year. It’s a simple way for us to give back and ensure kids in our community have what they need to stay healthy and focused on learning during the cold months.”
The drive organizers are also emphasizing the importance of gently used items. “While new items are always welcome, we encourage residents to consider donating outgrown but still good quality winter wear,” Thompson added. “It’s an excellent way to extend the life of these items and help families in need.”
Schools within the district will work with SoWashCo Cares to distribute the collected items to students in need discreetly. The organization expects to assist over 500 students this winter season.
