Overview of Alcorn State University

Alcorn State University is a public institution situated on the western edge of Mississippi, about an hour and a half southwest of Jackson. The Schools of Business and Nursing are on a separate site in Natchez. This HBCU was Mississippi’s first public university for blacks. A 19:1 student/faculty ratio supports the curriculum. The institution has a large selection of undergraduate and graduate degree programs for students to choose from. Outside of the classroom, students will find plenty of opportunities to engage with the campus community via the university’s many clubs and organizations. When it comes to athletics, the Alcorn State Braves play in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The institution sponsors seven men’s and eight women’s Division I sports.
