Alphabet soup or real impact: How EHL’s evolution is supported by accreditations | By Nathalie L’Huillier

In the world of higher education, accreditations have become an essential component of an institution’s reputation and credibility. But what do these accreditations really mean? Are they just a collection of letters and stamps, or do they have a tangible impact on the quality of education and the students who receive it? At École hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), we believe that accreditations are more than just an “alphabet soup” – they are a testament to our commitment to excellence and a driving force behind our evolution as a leading hospitality management school.

EHL‘s journey towards accreditation began over 30 years ago, when we first received accreditation from the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). Since then, we have added several other accreditations to our portfolio, including those from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the International Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE). But what do these accreditations mean for our students and stakeholders?

The answer lies in the rigorous process of evaluation and improvement that accreditation requires. To achieve accreditation, EHL must undergo a thorough assessment of our academic programs, faculty, research, and facilities. This process ensures that our education meets the highest standards of quality, relevance, and effectiveness. Moreover, accreditation encourages us to continuously innovate and improve, pushing the boundaries of hospitality education and research.

The impact of accreditation is tangible. Our students benefit from a world-class education that prepares them for successful careers in the hospitality industry. Our faculty are encouraged to pursue cutting-edge research that informs industry practice and shapes the future of hospitality. And our stakeholders can trust that EHL is committed to excellence and accountability. In an era of increasing competition and scrutiny in higher education, EHL’s accreditations are a beacon of quality and a testament to our dedication to making a real impact in the world of hospitality.
