The Association for the Study of Higher Education (ASHE) has been awarded a $24,998 grant to use toward collaborations and research surrounding the 2015 ASHE Conference. ASHE has 2,200 members who are committed to higher education research.
These funds were awarded by the William T. Grant Foundation, a group that hands out awards based on an application and review process. These particular funds will be used to facilitate discussions between ASHE and five other organizations that include:
- Pell Institute of the Council for Opportunity in Education
- Council of Independent Colleges, NAFSA
- Association of International Educators
- National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators
- Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education
In a release from ASHE, President Dr. Laura Perna said the grant will “identify a shared agenda for future policy-relevant research, members of these different organizations must have the opportunity to talk with, and learn from, each other.”
There is no doubt that the work coming from the ASHE is important to progress in higher education initiatives. Among its members are colleges, universities, policy centers and other government agencies. So many times these groups all work on their own when it comes to higher education initiatives and I know from experience that it leads to a lot of wasted resources. A collaboration like this means that the most progressive ideas will make it to higher education campuses that much more quickly. I look forward to hearing more about what progress is made leading up to and at the ASHE conference which will take place November 4 – 7, 2015 in Denver.
