Catherine Edmonds Appointed Interim Chancellor of Elizabeth City State University

Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Catherine Edmonds as its interim chancellor. Edmonds, a seasoned educator and administrator with a deep understanding of the university’s mission and values, will assume the role effective July 1, 2022.

As interim chancellor, Dr. Edmonds will lead the university’s efforts to build on its legacy of academic excellence, diversity, and community engagement. With over 20 years of experience in higher education, Edmonds has a proven track record of success in strategic planning, budget management, and student affairs.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Edmonds join our ECSU family as our interim chancellor,” said Dr. Milton Overton, ECSU’s Board of Trustees Chairman. “Her extensive experience, knowledge, and commitment to student success make her the ideal candidate to lead our institution during this period of transition.”

Dr. Edmonds comes to ECSU from North Carolina Central University, where she served as the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs. In this role, she oversaw student life, student affairs, and enrollments, and played a key role in developing strategies to enhance student engagement, retention, and success.

Throughout her career, Dr. Edmonds has demonstrated a passion for student success, diversity, and community engagement. She has worked tirelessly to create inclusive environments that foster academic excellence, personal growth, and social responsibility. Her appointment is a testament to ECSU’s commitment to providing students with the best possible education and experience.

As interim chancellor, Dr. Edmonds will work closely with the university’s faculty, staff, and students to develop a strategic plan that addresses the institution’s strengths and challenges. She will also prioritize building relationships with local and regional partners to promote economic development, research, and community engagement.
