Educators Must Believe in and Advocate for Their Students

Advocates are people who stand up for, speak for, and work to enhance the lives of those who are not able or not yet able, to speak for themselves. Sometimes educators are called upon to advocate for the children that they teach or their families. But, how can educators learn to advocate for their students and/or their families?

Let me introduce you to Rita Pierson, a lifelong educator (since 1972) who has figured out how to do just that. In her widely acclaimed TED talk, “Every Kid Needs a Champion,” she sends out a clarion call to educators to advocate for and believe in their students, and connect with them on a personal level.
