This group introduces special education teaching, with a particular emphasis on where it intersects with bilingual education. Educators are encouraged to study students of all ages whose disabilities affect their educational, psychological, and social needs. We will consider special education issues from various viewpoints, including ethical, legal, cultural, linguistic, and historical, and the additional responsibilities art teachers have towards students and their families. We will focus on the linguistic aspects and research implications, demonstrating the difficulties separating cultural and linguistic modifications to lessons from special education concerns. We will look at how under- and over-representation of bilingual students in a special needs environment further complicates these issues.
