How to Become a Certified Nutritionist

Certified Nutritionists have a four-year degree in nutrition from an accredited college or university. After completing coursework in human physiology, nutrition, biochemistry, and mathematics, they must complete a supervised practicum in a nutrition setting then will be eligible to apply for certification by the National Nutrition Education Association (NNEA).

Nutrition is a broad field that covers everything from the fundamental science of food and nutrition to the application of that science to human health. As a certified nutritionist, you will provide guidance to individuals on how to achieve and maintain optimal health.

Requirements for certification by the NNEA include passing an examination and completing a supervised practicum in a nutrition setting. The certification process can take up to two years and requires a fee. Once you have been certified, you can use the credential to identify yourself as a nutritionist and to provide guidance to individuals on how to achieve and maintain optimal health.
