If you plan to become an education administrator, school principal, or superintendent in the Alaska public school system, you will need a Type B Administrative Certificate.

Academic Obligations

Assessments

The Type B Administrative Certificate does not require an additional assessment to be passed beyond the Praxis I and II, which you have already passed to acquire Alaska educator licensure.

Classroom Teaching Experience Requirements

To be qualified for the Type B Administrative Certificate, you need authentication of 3 years of full-time licensed teaching experience. If you apply for the extra Superintendent endorsement, you must have 5 years of full-time licensed teaching experience and 1 year of full-time licensed experience as an education administrator.

Document and Application Requirements

Send a completed, signed, and notarized application for Type B Initial Administrative Certification to the Alaska EED along with:

  • Application fees
  • Fingerprint card
  • Official transcripts
  • Authentication of experience
  • Institutional recommendation

Background Check Requirements
