How to Become an Education Administrator in Oklahoma

Learn how to become an Education Administrator or School Principal in Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma State Department of Education issues a Standard Education Administrator Certificate to qualified applicants for School principal and Superintendent titles.

Academic Obligations

School principal: You must possess a master’s degree and successfully complete a state-authorized building-level leadership skills program in education administration.

Superintendent: If you do not already hold School principal licensure, you must successfully complete a state-authorized building-level leadership skills program in education administration that includes a master’s degree. You must also successfully complete a state-authorized district-level leadership skills program in education administration.

Assessments

School principal: You must pass the School principal Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT).

Superintendent: You must pass the Superintendent Oklahoma Subject Area Test (OSAT).

Classroom Teaching Experience Requirements

School principal: You must possess at least 2 years of teaching experience in an Oklahoma public or private school under a Standard Certificate.

Superintendent: You must possess 2 years of administrative experience in an Oklahoma public or private school under a Standard Certificate.

Documents and Application Requirements

When you have completed the above obligations, you may apply online for your Standard Education Administrator Certificate. Pay all application fees online. You will be asked to mail these materials to the Oklahoma State Department of Education:

  • Official college transcripts listing conference of degree and successful completion of an education  administrator preparation program
  • Additional necessary forms, as required (listed here)
