Renewal of Teaching Certification
All South Dakota teaching licenses expire July 1st of their expiration year. Beginning January 1st of that year, you can renew your license online. You have to have taken at least 6 renewal credits based upon the degree you possess:
- If you possess a bachelor’s degree: 3 credits have to be taken from an institution and verified via transcript; the other 3 can be continuing education/PD courses (one credit=15 continuing education contact hours)
- If you possess a graduate degree or National Board licensure: the 6 credits can consist of a blend of college courses and continuing education hours
Teaching Certification Reinstatement
Has your South Dakota teaching license lapsed? You can still apply online via the renewal method if you have finished one of the following:
- Six credits obtained in the past 5 years (these have to be verified by transcript and taken at an institution)
- Praxis II test scores
