While technical skills remain crucial, by 2025, STEAM education will place increased emphasis on developing soft skills and emotional intelligence. Recognizing that these skills are essential for success in any field, they will be intentionally integrated into the STEAM curriculum.
Communication skills will be honed through regular presentations of project work and peer teaching. Collaboration will be fostered through team-based projects that mirror real-world interdisciplinary STEAM work environments. Leadership and project management skills will be developed as students take turns leading team efforts.
Emotional intelligence training will help students better understand and manage their own emotions, as well as those of others – a crucial skill in team-based STEAM work. Mindfulness and stress-management techniques will also be taught to help students navigate the pressures of rigorous STEAM programs and future high-stakes careers.
