Oklahoma Legislature Can Stop CCP Influence in Higher Ed

As the world grapples with the growing threat of Chinese Communist Party (CCP) influence, Oklahoma lawmakers have a unique opportunity to take a stand and protect the state’s higher education institutions from Beijing’s insidious reach. The CCP’s efforts to infiltrate and manipulate American academia are well-documented, and Oklahoma is not immune to these threats.

In recent years, the CCP has been quietly investing in American universities, establishing Confucius Institutes and partnering with institutions to promote its own brand of propaganda and ideology. These initiatives may seem harmless on the surface, but they are, in fact, a Trojan horse for the CCP’s agenda to shape American thought and policy.

In Oklahoma, several universities have already fallen prey to the CCP’s charms, accepting millions of dollars in funding and establishing Confucius Institutes on their campuses. While these partnerships may have been entered into with the best of intentions, they have ultimately led to a loss of academic freedom and autonomy, as well as a compromised commitment to truth and intellectual honesty.

The Oklahoma Legislature has a critical role to play in stopping the CCP’s influence in higher education. By passing legislation that prohibits universities from accepting funding from the CCP or its affiliates, lawmakers can ensure that Oklahoma’s institutions of higher learning remain free from Beijing’s grasp.

Furthermore, the Legislature can take steps to increase transparency and accountability in university partnerships, requiring institutions to disclose all foreign funding and ensuring that academic programs are free from political interference. By taking these steps, Oklahoma can set a national example for how to protect academic freedom and prevent the CCP’s insidious influence from taking hold.

The time to act is now. Oklahoma lawmakers must recognize the threat that the CCP poses to American values and institutions, and take decisive action to protect the state’s higher education system from its influence. By doing so, they can ensure that Oklahoma’s universities remain beacons of intellectual freedom and honesty, and that the state’s students are not indoctrinated with the CCP’s propaganda. The future of American democracy depends on it.
