Preschool Activities With Balls

Preschoolers love to play with balls. Whether they’re kicking them around, bouncing them off the walls, or tossing them into the air, there’s always something fun to be done with a ball. Here are some fun activities to get your preschooler involved:

1. Have your toddler toss a ball to you. Communicate by making eye contact and waiting for the ball to come to you. If the ball bounces off of something before it reaches you, grab it and throw it back to your toddler.

2. Play keep away with a ball. Have your toddler hold the ball, and try to keep it away from them. If you can keep it away for a certain amount of time, your toddler gets to keep the ball.

3. Make a giant snowball. Have your toddler fill a small plastic bag with snow, then have them roll the snowball around. When it’s big enough, they can put it down and play with it.

4. Have your toddler toss the ball up in the air, and try to catch it. If they catch the ball, they get to keep it. If they don’t catch the ball, it goes back to your toddler.

5. Bounce the ball off the walls. Have your toddler stand in one spot, and have them bounce the ball off of the wall in front of them. The further they bounce the ball, the more points they get.

6. Play “catch.” Have your toddler stand in one spot, and have you toss the ball up in the air. When the ball is about to hit them, they must catch it with their hands. After they catch the ball, they can put it back in your hand, or they can try to throw it back to you.

7. Play “cat and mouse.” Have your toddler stand in one spot, and have you hide the ball somewhere nearby. Your toddler must search around the room for the ball, and then they can put it in your hand.

8. Make a labyrinth. Have your toddler lay down on the floor, and have you place small balls all around them. Your toddler has to walk around the labyrinth, and if they touch any of the balls, they lose the ball.

9. Have your toddler stand in one spot, and have you throw the ball up in the air. When the ball is about to hit them, they have to catch it with their hands. After they catch the ball, they can put it back in your hand, or they can try to throw it back to you.

10. Play “fetch.” Have your toddler stand in one spot, and have you hide the ball somewhere nearby. Your toddler has to walk around the room, and if they find the ball, they can take it back to you.
