Stages of Memory

To remember something, we must first remember what we wanted to remember. After that, we must process the information we remember to create a meaningful recollection. Finally, we must remember the meaning of the recollection to apply it to our lives.

The stages of memory are 1) recollection, 2) application, 3) retention, and 4) interpretation.

Recall

When we remember something, we must first remember what we want to remember. After that, we must process the information we remember to create a meaningful recollection. Finally, we must remember the meaning of the recollection to apply it to our lives.

The recall process begins with remembering the name of the thing we want to remember. Once we know the thing’s name, we can use it to remember the information we want to remember.

Application

Once we have remembered the name of the thing, we must use that information to remember the process that we need to remember to remember the information. After that, we can use the memory to remember the information we need to remember to remember the meaning of the recollection.

Retention

Once we have remembered the process, the information, and the meaning of the recollection, we must remember the information to remember the experience. After that, we can use the experience to remember the meaning of the recollection.

Interpretation

Once we have remembered the experience, the meaning of the recollection, and the meaning of the memory, we must interpret it to make it work for us. After that, we can apply the memory to our lives.
