Cooperative Learning When students work together toward a common goal.
Cooperative Play The act of engaging in recreational activities in which children collaborate to achieve a common objective.
Cooperative Scripting A study strategy in which students, in pairs, take turns verbally summarizing portions of material.
Cooperator The role a teacher plays when an outside evaluation is being performed. The teacher must share resources, activities, and objectives with the evaluator in order to give them the necessary data.
Coordination of Secondary Schemata When a child applies old schemata in a new setting with intention, imitation, and anticipation in order to reach a goal.
Copy Work Asking a child to copy words, phrases, or sentences to practice grammar.
Core Courses Describe the basic courses that are required for most college students before declaring a major and entering a specific field of study. These classes typically account for 30-40% of a bachelor’s degree.
Core Requirements Essential courses that student must take to receive a degree.
Co-regulation The process by which a child and his or her caregiver share the child’s emotional regulation until the child can take ownership of managing his or her own emotions.
Corporal Punishment Is a form of discipline where physical pain is deliberately inflicted to punish, reform, and deter unacceptable attitudes or behaviors.
Corrective Activities Alternative learning resources or strategies used after a formative assessment if learning mastery has not been achieved.
Corrective Feedback Is feedback provided by an educator focused on the area where the student excelled or made a mistake.
Correlation Coefficient A measure of the statistical relationship between one set of scores and another, or one group of scores and another. The measure assesses both the strength and direction of the relationship.
Co-Teaching Is having two or more certified teachers in the classroom sharing responsibility for teaching all or some of the students assigned to the classroom. These teachers work together to plan and deliver instruction, assessment, remediation, etc.
Counteridentification The tendency of a parent to invest in their children’s interests and pursuits and empathize with their success and failures.
Counterintuitive Responses Less instinctive responses to a child’s underachievement that may lead the child to change their actions and achievement patterns in the future.
Course A scheduled course on a specific topic or subject. Each institution of higher education offers degree programs that are comprised of specific and elective courses.
Course Load The number of courses that students take during a specific semester or term
Coursework Includes all the theoretical and practical courses to be completed by a student enrolled in a teacher education program.
