As a Christian educator, one of the most important lessons we can impart to our students is Christology. Christology is the study of the person and nature of Jesus Christ, and understanding it is essential to fully appreciating the significance of his life and teachings.
The first step in teaching students about Christology is to introduce them to the concept of the Trinity. The Trinity is the Christian belief that God exists as three distinct persons – the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit – who are all fully God but distinct from each other. Explain to your students that Jesus is the Son of God and that he, too, is fully God.
Next, it is important to discuss the Incarnation – the belief that Jesus was both fully human and fully God when he walked the earth. This can be a difficult concept to grasp, so it may be helpful to use examples from the Bible, such as Jesus’ hunger and fatigue in the desert, as evidence of his humanity.
It is also important to teach students about Jesus’ role as Savior and Redeemer. Discuss the significance of his death and resurrection, and how they provided salvation for all who believe in him. Talk about how Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross fulfilled Old Testament prophecies and how it serves as the basis for the Christian faith.
Another important aspect of Christology is Jesus’ role as our example and model for living. Encourage your students to read the Gospels and understand Jesus’ teachings on love, forgiveness, and serving others. Discuss how we can follow his example in our own lives and how doing so will bring us closer to God.
Finally, it is important to emphasize the ongoing role that Jesus plays in the lives of believers. Encourage your students to develop a personal relationship with him and to rely on his guidance and strength in their everyday lives.
