Overview of Texas A&M Admissions

Texas A&M is one of the highest-rated Texas institutions of higher education, and potential students will need good grades and test scores to gain admission. Keep in mind that high grades and standardized test scores are not a guarantee of admission. Students whose SAT/ACT scores and GPA are within the institution’s requirements have a good chance of being admitted. Applicants must complete an online application, and send test scores from either the SAT or ACT and high school transcripts. Glowing recommendation letters can bolster your application, along with being involved with student organizations and attempting a challenging course load. Students with unique talents and accomplishments can still receive strong consideration even if their GPAs are outside of the admissions offices mean range. After applying, students will receive a message from an admissions counselor about the next steps of the application process. Interested students should check out the university’s website, which has helpful tips and contact information for the admissions offices.

SAT Requirements and Scores

When we juxtapose these scores with national SAT data, we learn that most of the students who attend Texas A&M rank amongst the top third of all test-takers. On the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing exam, 50% of students scored between 580 and 680. The students at the bottom 25% scored a 580 or lower, while the top 25% scored a 680 or higher. Scores on the Math exam are a bit higher. The median 50% of students scored between a 590 and 700.  25% of students scored a 590 or lower, and the top quartile scored a 700 or higher. Students with a cumulative SAT score of 1380 or above will likely be granted admission to Texas A&M.

ACT Requirements and Scores

A mean ACT score is a 21, so you can see that nearly all Texas A&M students have over-mean scores. The national ACT data reveals that most Texas A&M students placed in the top 25% of all ACT test-takers. The middle 50% of students scored between 25 and 31. This means 25% of students had an ACT score of 25 or less, and at the top end, 25% received scores of 31 or above.
