Known for his zeal for supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities, host of the nationally syndicated “Tom Joyner Morning Show” Tom Joyner plans to give away one full-ride scholarship to a high school senior planning to attend an HBCU.
“The selected student will receive full tuition and stipends for up to 10 semesters to cover on-campus room and board and books. Students must meet the required academic standards each semester to renew the funds each year. Graduating high school seniors can apply for the scholarship by going to tomjoynerfoundation.org to complete the application.”
Joyner said that because the cost of college isn’t decreasing, he wants to assist a “high school senior with a chance to attend a Black college to pursue their dreams.”
Since its inception in 1998, the Tom Joyner Foundation “has provided scholarships to more than 29,000 students, and, in excess of $65 million has been raised to support our HBCUs.”
The foundation provides support to all 105 HBCUs.
Scholarship requirements are that students must maintain a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and students have to show a need for financial assistance.
Tom Joyner’s foundation also provides college assistance to veterans and graduate students.

This is an example of a person really making an education a priority through financial support. HBCUs have some of the best financial aid programs in the country but of course a full-ride scholarship could mean the difference between someone who decides to attend college, or skip it altogether.
