Tools for Teaching: Managing a Large Class Size

Teaching a large class can be a daunting task. But with the right tools, it can be a breeze. Here are five ways to manage a large class:

1. Utilize technology

Technology can be a powerful tool for managing a large class. If you have access to a projector and a screen, use them to provide supplemental material or display student work. You can also use software like Canvas or Blackboard to create digital slides and share them with your students.

2. Use whiteboards

Whiteboards are great tools for getting students involved in the class. You can use them to display information, ask questions, and create interactive presentations.

3. Use handouts

If you don’t have access to technology or whiteboards, you can still manage a large class by using handouts. Make sure to provide enough handouts for everyone in the class and make them available in both electronic and physical formats.

4. Utilize group work

Group work can be great for getting students engaged in class. Break the class into small groups and have them work on a task together. This can be fun for getting students involved and helping them learn more effectively.

5. Use lectures

Lectures can be great for providing information to a large class. You can use them to introduce new material, review material, or provide supplementary material.
