With regards to unit recovery, students only need to repeat specific units that are required to move to the next grade/level. This is especially suited to students who have already demonstrated a good level of understanding of, for example, 7 out of 10 concepts in a Mathematics class. This student can then retake the three concepts that weren’t adequately understood and/passed during the in-person (first) attempt at learning the course.
Even better, Tennessee’s Putnam County School provides a virtual training program that preempts students failing and then permits students to start working on their credit recovery units as soon as it is observed that the students are not picking up relevant knowledge. This is called the Virtual Instruction to Accentuate Learning (VITAL) program.
