Watching the Movie Before Reading the Novel Makes it Easier to Read

In this approach, you would go against the tried and true teaching grain by having learners view a movie based on a book of the same title, FIRST!

Many teachers have learners view the movie when the reading is completed, but for struggling readers or those who like visuals, watching the movie first helps them understand the reading better.

This approach allows all in the class to complete tasks and develop background knowledge of the reading content.

Once the movie has been seen, reading the text may be less daunting, especially if you can have learners search for ways the movie was different from the book.
