Indiana Commission for Higher Education requests $2.5 million to boost college success coach program

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education (ICHE) has requested a $2.5 million increase in its budget to expand its successful College Success Coach program. This program, designed to support students in their journey to college completion, has proven effective in providing individualized guidance and mentorship.

The request, which will be presented to the Indiana General Assembly, aims to scale up the program, currently offered at 36 institutions, to reach an estimated 10,000 more students across the state. This expansion would provide valuable support to individuals facing barriers to college success, including first-generation college students, low-income students, and those with disabilities.

“The success of the College Success Coach program has been demonstrably positive,” said [Insert Name], Executive Director of the ICHE. “[Insert Specific Data about program effectiveness, e.g., graduation rates, retention rates]. We believe this investment will yield significant returns, ensuring more Hoosiers achieve their educational goals and contribute to a stronger workforce.”

The program connects students with trained professionals who provide personalized guidance in areas such as academic planning, financial aid navigation, and career exploration. Coaches also act as advocates for students, connecting them with resources and support networks within the institution. This individualized attention has proven vital in helping students navigate the complex landscape of higher education.

The ICHE emphasizes that this investment is not only about increasing graduation rates, but also about building a more equitable and inclusive higher education system. By providing targeted support, the program empowers students from all backgrounds to achieve their full potential and contribute to Indiana’s economic growth.

The General Assembly’s decision on the funding request will determine the future of this impactful initiative. With the potential to impact thousands of lives, the ICHE hopes that lawmakers will recognize the value of this program and allocate the necessary resources to support its expansion.
