Getting Started With Experiential Learning

If you’re new to the world of experiential learning, there’s a lot you need to know before you get started. Here are some tips to get you started:

Start by considering what type of experience you want to learn about. You can learn about a new topic by doing research and then participating in an experience that corresponds to that research, or you can learn about a new skill by trying it out and then discussing the experience with a trainer or coach.

Select an experience that’s relevant to your interests and skills. Once you’ve chosen an experience, research the topic or skill you’ll be learning about before you go. Make sure the experience you choose is challenging enough and has the components you need to learn the material such as hands-on experiences, group work, and active participation.

Create a learning plan before you go. This plan should include information about what you’ll do during the experience such as reading materials beforehand or reviewing materials after the experience.

Take notes during the experience and record what you learned. This will help you remember the material and apply it to your own life.

Ask questions during the experience and share your observations and thoughts with the group. This will help you learn from others and build teamwork skills.

Once you’re finished with the experience, reflect on what you learned and how it applies to your life. This reflection can help you develop a stronger understanding of the experience and increase your chances of remembering what you learned.
