Educators will study the development of American education from a cultural perspective; the history of school and non-school based instruction from the colonial era to the twentieth century; learning societies and apprenticeships; market-based and community schooling; liberal learning the inception of universities; and schools as conduits of integration (political and economic) and arbitrators of social status and culture.
