The Dickinson State University (DSU) Board of Higher Education has announced the extension of Dr. Steve Easton’s role as the university’s acting president. Easton, who assumed the position in July 2023 following the departure of former president Dr. Thomas Mitzel, will continue to lead the institution through the 2023-2024 academic year.
The board’s decision comes after careful consideration of DSU’s current needs and Easton’s leadership during his initial months as acting president. “Dr. Easton has provided strong and steady leadership during a period of transition,” said [Board member’s name], chair of the DSU Board of Higher Education. “His commitment to the university and his deep understanding of its operations make him the ideal person to guide DSU during this important time.”

The board has indicated that a formal search for a permanent president will be initiated soon. The search committee will be comprised of representatives from the board, faculty, staff, and the broader Dickinson community. Easton will continue to work closely with the search committee to ensure a smooth transition to a permanent president.
