After 14 years as the director of athletics at NC State University, Randy Woodson has announced his retirement, effective June 30, 2023. Woodson, a well-respected figure in college athletics, has led the Wolfpack through a period of significant growth and success, leaving a lasting impact on the university.
During his tenure, Woodson oversaw the expansion of NCSU’s athletic facilities, including the construction of the state-of-the-art Carter-Finley Stadium and the renovation of Reynolds Coliseum. He also played a key role in the university’s decision to join the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), a move that has significantly elevated the Wolfpack’s profile nationally.
Under Woodson’s leadership, NCSU athletic programs achieved remarkable success. The Wolfpack football team experienced a resurgence, securing multiple bowl appearances, while the men’s basketball team reached the NCAA Tournament on numerous occasions. Other programs, like women’s soccer, volleyball, and track and field, also achieved prominence under his guidance.
“It has been an incredible honor to serve as Director of Athletics at NC State,” Woodson stated in his announcement. “I am incredibly proud of the accomplishments of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff. I am confident that the Wolfpack will continue to achieve great things in the years to come.”
