We Must Help Save America’s Historic Black Colleges

Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) are more than just educational institutions; they are pillars of the Black community, beacons of hope, and vital sources of opportunity. Yet, these institutions are facing a crisis, a silent threat that could undermine their ability to continue serving generations to come.

Financial instability, underfunding, and limited resources plague many HBCUs, jeopardizing their ability to provide high-quality education and support to their students. This is a crisis not only for the Black community, but for America as a whole.

HBCUs have a long and proud history, serving as vital centers of learning and activism during a time when Black students were denied access to other institutions. They have nurtured countless leaders, artists, scientists, and scholars, contributing significantly to American society.

Supporting HBCUs is an investment in the future of America. By ensuring their financial stability and providing them with the resources they need, we can empower Black students and create a more just and equitable society. This includes:

Increased Federal Funding: Directing more resources to HBCUs, both in research grants and institutional support.

Private Sector Partnerships: Fostering collaborations between HBCUs and corporations to provide internships, scholarships, and research opportunities.

Investing in Infrastructure: Supporting renovation and modernization projects to create a conducive learning environment.
