Gov. Shapiro helps launch state Board of Higher Education to get colleges, universities to ‘row in the same direction’

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro recently launched the state’s new Board of Higher Education, aiming to create a more cohesive and efficient higher education system.  The Board, comprised of leaders from across the state’s diverse higher education landscape, will play a key role in ensuring that Pennsylvania’s colleges and universities “row in the same direction” towards a shared goal of economic prosperity and student success.

“We need to ensure that our higher education system is working for everyone, not just a select few,” stated Governor Shapiro at the launch event. “This new Board will be a critical force in ensuring that we’re all rowing in the same direction, focused on making Pennsylvania a leader in higher education and economic growth.”

The Board’s mission includes fostering collaboration amongst institutions, improving affordability and accessibility, and developing strategies to address workforce needs. It will also serve as a resource for policymakers, providing data and insights to inform decisions regarding higher education funding and policy.

“This is a historic moment for Pennsylvania higher education,” said Dr. [Name of Board Chair], the appointed Chair of the Board. “We are committed to working together to ensure that our students are prepared for the jobs of tomorrow and that our state’s economy thrives. This Board will be a powerful force for positive change.”

The launch of the Board comes at a pivotal time for Pennsylvania’s higher education system. With growing concerns about affordability, accessibility, and workforce readiness, the Board’s efforts to unify the state’s colleges and universities will be crucial in ensuring a bright future for Pennsylvania’s students and its economy.
