Jackson, TN – Lane College, a historically Black college in Jackson, Tennessee, announced today the appointment of Donald Comer as its interim president. Comer, a seasoned administrator and veteran of higher education, will assume the role immediately, guiding the institution through a transitional period following the departure of former president Dr. Logan Hampton.
Comer brings a wealth of experience to Lane College, having served in various leadership positions at the institution for over 20 years. He previously held the role of Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, where he oversaw academic programs, faculty development, and student success initiatives.
“I am honored and humbled to be entrusted with this leadership role,” stated Comer. “My priority is to ensure a seamless transition for the college, supporting our students, faculty, and staff during this time. We remain committed to our mission of providing a high-quality education and fostering leadership within our community.”
Comer’s appointment comes at a pivotal time for Lane College, as the institution navigates the evolving landscape of higher education. His deep understanding of the college’s history, values, and goals will be invaluable in steering Lane through the upcoming challenges and opportunities.
The search for a permanent president is currently underway, with a nationwide search committee expected to present a candidate to the Board of Trustees in the coming months. Until then, Comer will provide steadfast leadership and a steady hand at the helm of Lane College, ensuring its continued success and legacy of academic excellence.
